When the Romans ruled by Caesar conquered France in 58BC, the Parisians were already living on this tiny island in the middle of the River Seine. Romans gave place to the Gauls, then the Francs, who became the French. The island became “Ile de la Cité” ....."the Island of the City”. This small island hosts Notre Dame Cathedral and its gardens, the Palais de Justice (Supreme Court), the Sainte Chapelle and the Conciergerie, le Pont Neuf, the oldest bridge of Paris, and the flowers-plant market. Enough to fill several days visiting without leaving the island!
The building is on Place Dauphine, in the one of the most evocative and romantic place of Paris; this place was commissioned by Henri IV in 1607 and nearly uniquely in Paris, buildings retain original colors. This location has no traffic and is very silent and very safe. Tiny chic restaurants, book shops and art galleries line the street while trees stand in the middle. A romantic scene!
The start of the famous “Bateau Mouche” River Tours is just a few steps away from Place Dauphine. Place Dauphine is a truly a haven of peace in the very center of Paris.
This duplex apartment, extremely quiet and bright, is located on the 3rd and 4th European (4th and 5th US) floors. The building is over 400 years old (nobody really knows the exact date, probably around 1610, records have long been lost!) so there is no elevator. But the enchantment is well worth the climb. The building has been recently restored to its original beauty and enhanced with warm tones of beige, brown and red that complement the parquet floors and the original high beamed ceiling restored and has two doors for added safety.
The decoration is a tasteful mixture of classic and contemporary furniture. An old wooden door gives entrance to your apartment and you are in the living room. A large sofa, that also sleeps two, is facing a beautiful limestone fireplace, decorative only, a large dinner table from Italy that easily fits and a fully equipped kitchen and with an enchanting view on the Place below. It’s the perfect setting for romantic dinners and lazy mornings in. An original beamed ceiling rises over eleven and a half feet high!
A charming brown granite bar with two stools opens on to the kitchen that has everything you need to make that oh so Parisian dinner. It features a built-in microwave, small dishwasher, convection oven, coffee pot, toaster, and a two burner electric stove. You’ll find a clothes washer and separate dryer conveniently located upstairs near the bedrooms. The kitchen of this apartment rental in Paris also comes complete with all of the pots, pans, and utensils you’ll need, as well as a full complement of porcelain dishes, cutlery, glasses, and quality linens to set an immaculate table.
A beautiful steel spiral staircase leads up to the two bedrooms and two bathrooms upstairs. To the left is the master bedroom with an extra wide queen size bed, a small desk in the corner, a pretty wall and table lamps to make working or lounging in bed a pleasure. A large window shines natural light and provides gorgeous views of Place Dauphine. A second flat screen TV, a dual standard DVD player and children can entertain themselves here while parents socialize below.
The master bedroom features an en-suite bathroom decorated in beige tile and features a toilet, a sink sunk into a curved counter, and a full size bathtub/shower combination with both fixed and flexible shower heads behind sliding glass doors and large mirrors.
A compact second bedroom incorporates an excellent solution for providing both comfortable sleeping and room to maneuver. Special custom bunk beds fold down from the wall and easily flip back up when not in use. A sturdy ladder pulls down to access the upper bed, which has a safety railing that pulls up so there is no risk of a nocturnal tumble. The system is reminiscent of the famous couchette compartments on European trains like the Orient Express!
The second bathroom is on the landing at the top of the stairs, opposite the second bedroom. It features a shower, sink, and toilet. The heated chrome towel rack offers plenty of plush white towels.
